I'm still here!

Actually, I wrote a nice, long blog the other day.  Computer went off line and it was gone.  Couldn't even find it in the draft area. I will try to do better.  Is anyone even reading this?

Last winter I was diagnosed with celiac disease which is an auto immune delight!  I initially ignored all the warnings and my doctor's instructions because it was kind of "so what".  After beginning to research, I found so many of my health problems could, COULD, be attributed to celiac and having celiac is dangerous in and of itself.  My doctor told me if I did not follow a gluten free diet, I have a 16% higher chance of colon cancer.  Again, my response was, "that's all?"  I'll wing it.  I bought some books on Amazon and started reading.  I won't go into the list of side effects you MAY have if you have celiac but suffice to say it scared the peewaden out of me.  Gee, I may not be anemic anymore, or fatiqued all the time or really depressed.  The list went on and on and ofcourse, it would be lovely if gluten free cured all of the side effects.  I've been anemic a great deal of my life and now I hope I know why. So, I will be blogging about gluten free as well.  I thought I might do a mini Jule Powell/Julia Child experiment and bake my way through, say, 50 recipes before Christmas.  I would love to be talented enought to write a Christmas food related gluten free cookbook.  I LOVE to bake at Christmas and am dreading this year.  My favorite rum balls?  No more so I'll will be experimenting with our favorite recipes and will definitely share that as well.  I need a source for gluten free vanilla wafers for sure.  I bought some peanut butter cookies today that are gluten free.  They taste good but are not moist and fall apart if I look at them.  We shall see.

I've been working diligently on getting my Etsy store open and will be spending alot of time doing that, I pray.  But, I am using up supplies I've had for years and plan to sell supplies as well.  There are so many talented people on Etsy and I'm glad we have a place to sell our stuff.  But, with that said, I'm going to publish this, search thru a new gluten free baking book I received today from Overstock.  Maybe I'll blog my way thru that!

Falling Into Fall

Even though the temps are still hot here in north Texas, the air has changed. At least it seems that way to me. Grasping at straws.....quite possibly. LOL  But regardless, it lifts my spirit and I'll take that any day. Fall is my favorite time of year. Opening windows after living in air conditioning for months on end and before buttoning up for the colder air of winter and the heater. The leaves on our ornamental pears begin to turn a beautiful shade of maroon, the neighbors' trees are a riot of gold and orange and the leaves begin to fall. Yard work slows down. I swear every year I'm going to have a wonderful fall veggie garden and every year it doesn't happen. I have always believed we will have better luck in the fall rather than our non existent spring that quickly melts into a hot and dry summer. One of these years I will have to follow through. The State of our Union

Tomorrow Mike and I will celebrate our first date 41 years ago! He didn't remember the right date when I asked him as men are sometimes want to do. I'll let it slide this time. Who knew 41 years ago when he took me to feast at Pancho's Mexican Buffet (all you can eat for $1.49) and then to one of the most lovely older theaters in Dallas that would be it for both of us. II can't remember the name of the theatre but it was elegant and beautiful. And I could still climb stairs without screaming in pain. We saw The Godfather. There were embarrassing parts and the violence and language was so colorful for a simple 17 year old like me but it was a good movie, to say the least. We had a nice time. Life's a Hoot!

What has the Brod Abode been up too? Hmmmm so many things have gone on the last month or so. This Brod has become a Food Network addict. Again. And that is awesome because now all I want to do this "going to be Texas hot" summer is try new recipes! IF ONLY I didn't have to go to the grocery store. My dream kitchen would include a never ending pantry. Need it? It's there. Ah, I can dream. The bored om factor has been so great I've succumbed to the temptation of General Hospital again. First time in maybe, 20 years? Getting old is extremely interesting and so is double cataract surgery. And the rules that accompany said surgery. I think I have discovered that they have discovered I can be an ornery patient. I guess another old thing. An old EMT, VBG.
